Fried Green Tomatoes (1991, PG-13, 130 min) A neglected housewife makes an unexpected friend at a nursing home, where she hears a true tale about an independent woman in 1920s Alabama, who ran the town diner, served food to people of color and protected her sister-in-law from an abusive spouse.

Where the Crawdads Sing (2022, PG-13, 125 min) Kya is a young woman who raised herself in the North Carolina marshlands after being abandoned there by her mother when she was a little girl. She feels detached from the small-town community near the marshes until two men show interest in her. However, when one of them later dies, she becomes the town's prime suspect.
