In Search of New Beginnings: Films about the Refugee Experience In-Person

Join us for this 4-night film series exploring the refugee experience. Registration for the series begins January 8. 

January 22: Swimmers (2022, 134 min.) From war-torn Syria to the 2016 Rio Olympics, two young sisters embark on a harrowing journey as refugees, putting both their hearts and champion swimming skills to heroic use. Based on a true story.

January 29: Kite Runner (2007, 128 min.) Amir receives a call from his uncle to travel to Afghanistan and rescue Hassan, his childhood friend and servant.

February 5: Sin Nombre (2009, 96 min.) A Honduran girl trying to immigrate to the United States gets caught up in the violence of gang life.

February 12: Refugees of Shangri-La (2013, 120 min.) After twenty years surviving refugee camps in Nepal, the Kingdom of Bhutan's forgotten exiles abandon hopes of returning to their lost land and seek a new life in America. (documentary).
