Mr. Moser’s Neighborhood: The Intersection of Cleveland and Vaudeville In-Person
Otto Moser’s pub (1893 to 1994 on East 4th Street and 1994-2018 at Playhouse Square) was far more than a tavern. It also was the go-to hangout for an astonishing number of visiting vaudevillians who performed live at more than 60 (that’s right: 60) Cleveland venues. And some 650 of those performers bequeathed to Otto a (usually signed and sometimes dated) photograph of themselves. For more than a century, a huge number of patrons certainly gazed at Otto’s walls and display cases and wondered “who are those people?” After much research, we now know at least something about most of those performers!
Presented by Christopher Roy, former Cleveland heights Historical Society president, Mr. Moser’s Neighborhood: The Intersection of Cleveland and Vaudeville (the book and the presentation) tell the never-before-chronicled story of vaudeville’s heyday in Cleveland (roughly 1885-1930), including profiles of more than 100 of the stars enshrined at Ottos. Co-sponsored by the Cleveland Heights Historical Society.
