Why the Founders were So Optimistic In-Person
In 1776, the Second Continental Congress, responding to the increasing demands of most colonists, defied the British Empire and launched a never-been-tried-before republic that had no Navy, no allies, no credit, and no obvious reason to think it could survive. What were they thinking? More to the point: Why were they so optimistic? This talk explores the roots of American audacity and concludes that the state of international affairs in the 18th century played the key role. Presented by Jason Opal, Dean of The Ohio State University at Mansfield.
