Health and Wellness Book Club In-Person

Join us each month as we explore topics ranging from health equity and the healthcare system to mental health and popular psychology. Pick up a copy of the selected books at the second floor Reference Desk at Lee Road.

June 21st: The Beauty in Breaking, by Michele Harper. A moving memoir told in a series of interconnected stories drawn from the author's life and work as an emergency room physician. Harper explores how we all are broken--physically, emotionally and psychically--and what we can do to heal ourselves as we try to heal others.

July 19th: Maybe You Should Talk To Someone, by Lori Gottleib. From the perspective of both a therapist and a patient, Gottleib offers a boldly revealing portrait of what it means to be human, and a disarmingly funny and illuminating account of our own mysterious lives and our power to transform them.

August 16th: The Happiness Project: Or, Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun, by Gretchen Rubin. The author chronicles her adventures during the twelve months she spent test-driving the wisdom of the ages, current scientific research, and lessons from popular culture about how to be happier.
